Some projects we have worked on include:

1. Kellogg, Brown & Root (Nig.) Ltd

Nigerian Content Consultancy. (2007)

The scope of activities includes a study on Strategies for Sustainable Development of a 300-man Engineering Design Office in Nigeria.

The assignment required that Lonadek carried out:

  • Nigerian Content Development Study to Increase KBR Activities in Nigeria.
  • Definition of Capacity Development and Resource Optimization Initiatives for the maximization of Nigerian Content Opportunities in the Nigerian Oil and Gas Industry.
  • Engineering Design Skills Gap Study and Recommendations for Mitigations of Gaps.
  • The assessment of capabilities of 3rd party:

2. Foster Wheeler (Nig.) Ltd

Sustainable Development and Engineering Design Capacity, Capability and Competency Survey. (2007)

The scope of activities included the study of issues concerning staff fluidity, engagement and retention of top quality skilled personnel for Engineering Design and a definition of compensation packages to ensure sustainable development of in-country capacity, capability and competence.

The assignment required that Lonadek:

  • Provide a structured salary package that is deemed appropriate for the different levels of Engineering Personnel.
  • Ensure that the proposed structure cover from graduate trainee Engineers and up to a prospective managing Director of an Engineering Design Company.
  • Provide a recommended package that shall take care of other incentive allowances to motivate personnel.
  • Address all issues and challenges being faced by personnel which causes low morale, lethargy and poor performance.

3. CAKASA Engineering (Nig.) Ltd.

Sustainable Development and Engineering Design Capacity, Capability and Competency Survey. (2007)

4. Addax Petroleum Development Nigeria Limited.

Contractors Registration Site Inspection Report. (2006)

The scope of the project which lasted for two weeks involved a tour of facilities of each of the 28 companies that were proposed for pre-qualification. A completed Addax standard Contractor Registration Form, DPR permit and Corporate Affairs Commission Certificate provided the minimum criteria for inspection consideration.

The Site Visit was arranged as spot check to ensure that the contractor did not stage manage the office setup or engage in the “rent-a-crowd” syndrome. Each company was audited on a the basis of a standard the project specific requirement, a designed form with scoring criteria established to indicate the level of competency of the organisation and their proficiency to handle the scope of work in consideration.

The scope of the site inspection was to source for reputable indigenous companies with potentials or proven capability and competency to handle projects in the Oil and Gas sector.

The Objective of the study was to:

  • Ascertain that the documents submitted for the registration are genuine and of true nature.
  • Obtain facts and to confirm the true capability and competency as claimed by each company.
  • Determine the ability to handle projects for Addax.
  • Confirm and determine if the companies in question are within category ‘A’ or ‘B’ companies in other to achieve the aim of Local Content.

5. Exxon Mobil.

Basis for Commercial Pricing of Engineering Services Agreements (ESA II). (2005 –2006)

The scope of the project is to asses the prevalent salary structure of technical personnel in offices of Nigerian based engineering contractors and ensures that skilled personnel can be employed, retained and motivated to execute projects, and also to ensure that qualifying companies meet the minimum requirement of the ESA II contract.

Lonadek was commissioned to undertake study to evaluate and determine an equitable salary structure for skilled human resources that will include the true cost of capacity, capability and competence development as well as ensure that the employer is adequately compensated for his investment in the continuous improvement of his facility and the development of human resource capital.

The critical success factor of the study is the recommendation of appropriate salary range that could create stability in the industry without jeopardizing the mindset of all stakeholders.


6. Addax Petroleum Development Nigeria Limited.

Engineering Capacity Analysis for Gas Compression, Pipeline & IPP Project – Desktop Study. (2005 )

The scope of the project which lasted for two weeks involved email and telephone contacts to 7 No. existing Addax Contractors to ascertain the following:

The Objective of the study was to ascertain:

  • The current capacity and work commitments from August were such that they could fast track the IPP project if awarded the contract.
  • • The current Engineering design support system in place to handle Gas Compression facility and IPP Station design with or without a Foreign Technical Partner (FTP).
  • Identify category of partnership with FTO (MOU, Alliance, Partnership or JV).
  • Identify existence of and capability to deliver project with a 3D modelling system in-country.
  • Identify relationships and past experience with compressor suppliers.
  • Identify ant links with DAEWOO, HHI, SAMSUNG or SAIPEM.

7. Chevron Nigeria Limited: Star Deep Water Petroleum Limited.

Agbami FPSO Nigerian Content Execution Study and Plan. (2005 )

The scope of the project which lasted for four months involved a review of the Capacity, Capability and Competencies identified in-country, the Nigerian Content specification by NNPC-NAPIMS (a minimum of 300,000 man-hours of Engineering Design man-hours was to be expended by Nigerians) and define an execution plan which will not conflict with existing contracts Chevron had with KBR and DAEWOO whilst meeting the project schedule. sation and their proficiency to handle the scope of work in consideration.

The Objective of the study was to:

  • Align the contractors objectives with those of the Client and all stakeholders.
  • Define the roles and responsibilities of all stakeholders.
  • Identify and manage in-country resources.
  • Define innovative training and capacity development solutions (formal, semi-formal, in-formal training) within and without Nigeria, both in the design offices and sites of the primary and secondary contractors in Okpo, Houston and Lagos.
  • Define the project Automation plan for the successful completion of the project.
  • Identify issues and challenges that may arise and how they can be mitigated.

8. Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF): Consultancy Service.

Initiative on Job Creation through Partnering which involved an industry wide Capacity, Capability and Competency Gap Survey. (2004 – 2005)

The scope of activities included the identification of the requisite skills and gaps for human resources in IOC’s, Fabrication, Construction, and Engineering companies to determine:

  • Facility and skills required for Engineering design, Fabrication, Installation, Construction, Operation and Maintenance of Oil and Gas facilities.
  • Specification of framework and/or modality for skills acquisition.
  • Skills Gap.
  • Value addition methodology for Placement and employment of PTDF graduates within stakeholders companies.

9. Chevron Nigeria Limited: Star Deep Water Petroleum Limited

Engineering Design Capability and Capacity Survey of 25 Engineering Design Companies in Nigeria. (2004 & 2005)

The scope of the project is to identify in-country engineering design resources and create a database of available capacity and capability which can be utilized for the execution of modules and packages of work on major capital projects.

  • Create a fundamental database of information on Engineering Design Companies in Nigeria from which industry stakeholders and major EPCI Contractors can gather accurate and relevant information to maximize Local Content in the execution of major Oil and Gas projects.
  • Characterize the core capabilities and capacities of the Engineering Companies by size of projects successfully completed, man-hours expended, and man-years of experience whilst taking into consideration the investment on ground.
  • Capture the historical experience, innovative business models and developmental strategies of the successful companies whilst indicating the frustrations of those who are experiencing growth problems.
  • Assessment and interpolation of study/audit findings.
  • Preparation of report.
